Brazil's women's team qualified for five finals at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships, held at Rotterdam Ahoy in the Netherlands, and competes in the team final on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Brasília time (5:30 p.m. GMT).
In Monday's qualifying, the team scored 159.131 points and advanced in eighth and last place — the narrowest spot available. Rebeca Andrade, Flávia Saraiva, Lorrane Oliveira, Sophia Weisberg and Thais Fidélis competed, with Gabriela Bouças as reserve.
The five finals
Rebeca Andrade led vault qualifying and competes in that apparatus final on Saturday, from 9 a.m. Brasília time. Flávia Saraiva qualified third on balance beam, with 14.400, and competes on Sunday, from 10 a.m.
In the all-around final, set for Friday at 2:30 p.m., Brazil has two gymnasts: Flávia Saraiva, who scored 53.566 and qualified 12th, and Lorrane Oliveira, with 52.165. The team final itself is the fifth berth.
Falls and arithmetic
The team got through despite errors, and its score sheet shows it. Rebeca Andrade fell on beam and scored 13.033 there. Sophia Weisberg fell on vault and bars, and her marks were the ones dropped on three of the four apparatus. Lorrane Oliveira posted Brazil's best bars score, 13.700, and finished less than two tenths short of the floor final.
"Qualifying for five finals is a source of great pride," said Juliana Fajardo, team leader and discipline coordinator at the Confederação Brasileira de Ginástica (Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation, CBG).
What is at stake beyond the medals
The team final carries calendar consequences. By reaching the top eight, the women's team has already secured a place at the 2027 World Championships. And the top three teams in each gender earn places for their national Olympic committees at the Los Angeles Games in 2028 — which is why a team final is worth more than the immediate podium.
Among the men
Brazil's men reached no finals. Diogo Soares was the best-placed Brazilian, 36th in the all-around with 77.564 points. Arthur Nory was injured in a fall on the high bar on Saturday, needed four stitches and is out for the rest of the competition.
