Aranda and Díaz break it open
The Tampa Bay Rays beat the Cleveland Guardians 7-3 at Progressive Field on Saturday, October 17, 2026, tying the American League Championship Series at two games each.
Jonathan Aranda, who had gone 0 for 10 in the first three games of the series, finished with three hits and two runs batted in; his single in the seventh inning drove in two. Yandy Díaz had two hits and two RBIs, including a two-run home run off Matt Festa in the ninth. Chandler Simpson and Junior Caminero each drove in a run, and Caminero lined a double off the left-field wall in the sixth.
Nick Martinez pitched 5⅓ innings for Tampa Bay, allowing one run on two hits, for his first postseason win. Daniel Espino took the loss for Cleveland. Travis Bazzana hit his first postseason home run for the Guardians.
The top of the order woke up
The shape of the game sat in the first four spots of the Rays' batting order: those hitters produced six of Tampa Bay's 11 hits and six runs batted in. Across the first three games of the series, the same four had gone 7 for 41 with three RBIs between them.
That is the swing that changed the series, and it is why a 2-1 Cleveland lead became a tie rather than a 3-1 hole.
Rain reset the schedule
Rain at Progressive Field pushed Game 4 from Friday to Saturday, which in turn moved Game 5 to Sunday. The delay let Cleveland's Parker Messick, a left-hander, start on normal rest, and gave Tampa Bay's Drew Rasmussen, a right-hander, five days off.
Game 5 is Sunday in Cleveland, with first pitch at 5:08 p.m. ET on TBS. If the series goes further, Games 6 and 7 are Monday and Tuesday at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg.
What the winner walks into
The Milwaukee Brewers are already waiting, having swept the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League Championship Series to reach their first World Series since 1982. Game 1 is Friday, October 23, at 8 p.m. ET in Milwaukee, which holds home-field advantage and would host Games 1, 2, 6 and 7.
