The 2026 Copa Libertadores final is set: Palmeiras and Estudiantes de La Plata meet on Saturday, November 28, at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo. It is a single match on neutral ground, and Conmebol has not yet announced the kick-off time.
Both places were settled on penalties, and both at the expense of Brazilian clubs.
How Palmeiras got there
Palmeiras beat Fluminense 2-1 at the Maracanã in the first leg and lost 1-0 at home, at the Nubank Parque. With the tie level at 2-2, it went to penalties, and the São Paulo side won the shootout 5-3.
This is the club's eighth Libertadores final and their second in a row — in 2025 they lost the decider to Flamengo. The title has come three times, in 1999, 2020 and 2021; the runner-up finishes in 1961, 1968, 2000 and 2025.
And Estudiantes
Estudiantes drew 0-0 in Argentina and drew 0-0 again at the Maracanã, playing much of the second half a man down, before beating Flamengo 3-2 on penalties.
The club from La Plata have four continental titles — 1968, 1969, 1970 and 2009 — and return to a final 17 years after their last one. One historical detail closes the circle: Palmeiras and Estudiantes have already met in a Libertadores decider, the 1968 play-off, played at that same Centenario and won by the Argentines.
For Palmeiras, the final falls in the closing stretch of the Campeonato Brasileiro (Brazil's national league), where the side sit second.
